Stills from 35mm newsreel negatives. First divers on the Dunbar wreck site 1950s. Using twin air cylinders is Wally Gibbins (right) with diving equipment manufacturer Don Linklater. On the water is Ron Clisold on the ski. View from the cliff shows position where ship struck rocks, close to the notorious suicide location “The Gap”. (which is a ‘gap’ in the cliff face). 121 people perished in the Dunbar disaster, 1857. More died in modern times jumping off the cliff in desperation to end their suffering.

Party was at Jane Street, Balmain – in that era the large house was a regular venue. Three 18 gallon kegs of beer per party, girls admitted free – guys paid for the beer.
Late at night, various celebrity musicians and dancers would arrive after work and jam until dawn.
